Dr. Ambrose Baber (1792-1846)
Dr.
Ambrose Baber was a leading citizen and one of the founders of Macon. He
was a co-founder of the Christ Episcopal Church and the Macon Free &
Accepted Masons Lodge #5. Interestingly, Dr. Baber died drinking a
prescription given to a patient who had questioned its safety. The patient
proved to be correct, and Dr. Baber paid for it. (It was later proven that
a typographical error in a formal pharmaceutical book used by Dr. Baber had been
responsible for the mix up; all of the books had to be recalled and reprinted to
fix the error!)
